Students are encouraged to inquire about opportunities for independent research work at the laboratory.  For undergraduate students that lack prior research experience we highly recommend inquiring about the course Biol 4990 (Independent Resesearch).  This is a flexible credit course (1-3 crs.) where the student has the opportunity to do an independent project in one of several areas supported by this laboratory.  To register in this course under this laboratory you need to contact Lab PI, Dr. Elvia Melendez-Ackerman, before hand.  Funding opportunities for students in the lab often originate from from various sources including CREST-CATEC, PR-LSAMP, AGEP, TRC, REU, UMEB  and SEEDS.  A number of students in this laboratory have participated in the OTS Minority Scholars Program.  Students should contact individual programs or the Lab PI for application procedures.
