Facilities

Lab Resources Our facilities are equipped to carry out microscopy studies using computerized real-time photography for micro-histological studies as well as morphological studies of small organisms. Equipment for isozyme electrophoresis is also available. Our computer lab (8 computers) are equipped with software to run statistical analyses (using PCORD, Sigma Plot, SAS, JMP and Matlab), analysis of spatial data and GIS (Arc View, Arc Map), image analysis (Adobe Photoshop, Spot Basic, HemiView) and Construction of interactive keys and specimen data base (LUCID3). We have three Olympus microscopes, two with image capability.

Field Equipment We have a digital camera equipped with a fish-eye lens for estimates of canopy structure (LAI) and ISF, ToPCON, Ceptometer and three Sony digital video cameras with underwater housing, tripods and infrared lights. In collaboration with the Physiological Ecology Laboratory at UPR-Humacao, this laboratory maintains a state-of-the art meteorological station with satellite transmission capabilities at Mona island Reserve.
